The Aguada Fort, built in typical Portugese style in the 16th century is one of the most famous beach resorts in Goa. The emerald garden below the fort along with the majestic terraces, makes the fort a major attractions in this part of Goa. This well preserved ancient Portuguese fort of Goa is a must see in the Sinquerim beach that overlooks the vast expanse of the alluring beauty of the Arabian sea. Constructed in 1612, the fort was built to stop the attack from the Dutch and the Marathas and thus to protect old Goa.

The fort also acted as a reference point particularly to the ships that were then coming from Europe. This fort is one of the well maintained coastline fort along the shore of the Mandovi river. The Aguada fort used to have a spring inside the fort that supplied water to the stopping by ships. Thus the Fort acquired its name from the word Aguada which means water. The 4-storey lighthouse in the fort was constructed in 1864 and is considered to be one of the most oldest lighthouses in Asia of its kind. Presently, a part of the Aguada fort is used as jail. This large fort used to be one of the crucial forts of the Portuguese. It is so large that it covers up the whole of the western tip of the Bardez peninsula. The surrounding areas of the Aguada Fort is now taken by the fort Aguada Beach Resort that forms a 5 star hotel in the Sinquerim Beach.
